Project Title:
Pick and Place Robot for silicone chips
Company: Calviri
Description:
Peptide arrays are synthesized on silicone wafer. Each array is about 10mm X 10mm. The synthesis is taking place on a whole wafer and standard semiconductor equipment is used to handle the wafer. However, when the wafer is diced to separate the arrays chips, it is hard to work with the individual chips and perform any biochemistry assays on them.
in order to facilitate and expedite the assays, the chips need to be packaged. The goal of this project is to develop an automated robotic system that can handle the chips and package them so that they can easily be used in the assays.
Skills used:
- Customized Marlin firmware to fit the hardware specification including the number of motors, end stops, steps/mm of stepper motors.
- Programmed BTT Octopus V1.1 board with customized Marlin firmware.
- Used PyQT to design user interface and PySerial to communicate to Octopus board.
Achievements:
Below is a demonstration of the robot picking the chips and placing them on a platform that is developed for the batch processing of the chips.
